Life in West Meade, Tennessee.
West Meade is a well-established residential neighborhood in west Nashville, set on large wooded lots just west of downtown and directly beside Belle Meade. Its quiet, winding streets are lined with mid-century ranch homes, traditional brick houses, and a growing number of renovated and custom builds, all on generously sized lots that give the neighborhood a private, almost country feel. It is a slightly less pricey alternative to Belle Meade that still delivers the same leafy, estate-adjacent lifestyle minutes from the city.
The neighborhood's roots reach back to the Belle Meade estate: the Victorian "West Meade" mansion was built on Old Harding Pike in 1886, and the surrounding land was subdivided into the West Meade and Hillwood neighborhoods in the 1950s. Today West Meade is prized for its mature trees, its large lots, and its easy access to the Warner Parks, the shops and dining of Belle Meade and Green Hills, and downtown Nashville.

Inside West Meade, Nashville's quiet wooded enclave beside Belle Meade
A closer look at the story behind the neighborhood, the people who live here, the market today, the green space that shapes everyday life, and the schools and destinations all around it.
A neighborhood shaped by the Belle Meade estate
West Meade's story begins with the Belle Meade estate. In 1886, the Victorian "West Meade" mansion was built on Old Harding Pike on land that had been part of the historic Belle Meade plantation, and the mansion still stands today on the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood took its name in the early 1940s, and after World War II the land was subdivided into the West Meade and Hillwood neighborhoods we know today, with developer H.G. Hill Jr. donating parcels for schools and a country club.
The result is a neighborhood of character: mid-century ranch homes, many beautifully renovated, alongside traditional brick houses and newer custom builds, all on large, heavily wooded lots, with zoning in much of the area requiring a 40,000-square-foot minimum lot. Mature trees canopy the quiet winding streets, and the whole neighborhood carries a horse-country-adjacent feel that echoes its Belle Meade heritage. Downtown Nashville is roughly ten miles away.
